Magdalena Neuner Hammersmith Bridge Pauline Ferrand Prevot MTB Carbon MTB Jessi Stensland Hello Boys! Woman in black

Shot Notes

Pauline Ferrand-Prevot came to French National TT Championships at Saint-Amand to bury Caesar, not to praise her and she did just that, leaving 60 times champion Jeannie Longo in 5th place, over a minute down on the new queen of French Cycling. PFP didn’t mince her words at the finish, “It is the end of Jeannie Longo’s reign, that’s why everyone is happy and we are finally speaking of the new generation, it’s been a long time coming, I hope a page has been turned. In the media they only talk about her”.

Not so fast, Jeannie got 10 minutes on the main French lunchtime news spot where she complained of “dirty tricks” at the recent national training camp in the Jura. She had been interrupted 3 times for drug tests during a two week period and said her start at the National Time Trial championships had been changed at the last moment. She also complained that her husband and trainer could not accompany her to the event and she had been unable to prepare at altitude in Colarado. At the finish line it seems the older generation still have a soft spot for Jeannie.

Rival, Edvige Pettel, also looking for a place on the Olympic Squad was even less kind “We are all fed up with her, there are youngsters who’ve been up and coming for a while have had to live in her shadow, hopefully this result will be fatal for Longo”.

La Reine est Morte, Vive la Reine!
